Big thank you to all! The Second coordination meeting with C2Cs and UNITIWIN/UNESCO Chairs was a big success.

The Second coordination meeting with UNESCO category 2 institutes and centres (C2Cs) and UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs related to the Culture Sector successfully took place on 23-24 November 2017 at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. The meeting was organized around the overarching theme of Culture as an enabler of sustainable development. More than eighty representatives from C2Cs, UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN Networks and the Young Professionals of the World Heritage Forum from all corners of the world attended the meeting.

On the first day, a series of presentations were made on the themes relating to the 2030 Agenda: the role of heritage conventions and recommendations on sustainable development, the UNESCO Culture Sector’s activities around the SDGs and the New Urban Agenda and the crucial role of the centres and universities. These presentations were followed by the break-up sessions under four thematic groupings - “Cultural and Natural heritage”, “Intangible heritage”, “Creativity” and “Culture in Emergencies”.  During these workshops, participants shared their thoughts and experiences relating to the 2030 agenda and discussed challenges and opportunities on how Category 2 Centres and UNESCO Chairs can contribute to UNESCO’s mission towards implementing SDGs in their respective fields of expertise.

On the second day, the on-line Network of UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs and C2Cs related to Culture was officially launched. In the morning session, several UNESCO partners as well as UNESCO officials presented practical guidelines and networks to implementing the best format for developing and sharing good practices. This meeting was an excellent opportunity for the C2Cs, UNESCO Chairs, and UNITWIN Networks to coordinate their future activities by raising thought-provoking questions and suggestions on new ways of collaborating with UNESCO, meeting each other and sharing experience and knowledge.
